Scott Steffens

SCOTT STEFFENS is an audit partner in the Grant Thornton LLP Chicago office. He also serves as the chairman of the firm's Religious Organizations Practice and leader of the Midwest Region's Not-for-Profit and Higher Education practice. He has over 25 years of experience working with higher education, not-for-profit, healthcare and corporate organizations. Scott has served charter schools, private schools, colleges, universities, religious entities, cultural institutions, membership associations, social service organizations, foundations and several community and public hospitals. Scott also has experience with SEC registrants and various domestic and international debt and equity offerings.

Scott spent the first 20 years of his career with Deloitte in the external audit practice specializing in higher education, not-for-profit and healthcare clients. His general areas of expertise include financial reporting, due diligence and risk assessments.

Scott serves on the board, audit and executive committees of Erikson Institute, a graduate school for child development and Big Shoulders Fund, an organization that provides support to the Catholic schools in the neediest areas of inner-city Chicago. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society, where he was be chairperson of the board in 2016 and 2017. Scott has been a recognized leader in attracting, developing and retaining more diverse professionals in the accounting field for more than ten years. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from DePaul University, where he has served in multiple leadership, alumni and fundraising roles in the College of Commerce and Athletics Departments.

Scott resides in Wheaton, Illinois.
